Andrea Khalid, M.A., Registered Psychotherapist

Offering Services in Ottawa and throughout Ontario

Whether you have been struggling for a while or if something has just happened which shifted your mental health well-being, it’s a good time to talk about it.  Reaching out for help is not a sign of weakness, it's a sign of strength and courage.  I work collaboratively with clients to ensure we are meeting their needs. I view my role as helping to develop healthier coping mechanisms, a better understanding of symptoms and build resiliency. Therapy is a journey of self-reflection and understanding. Trusting the process can be difficult, but well worth it.

About Me

I have been working in the Psychology field for over 15 years. Before my passion for clinical work, I worked in neuropsychological assessment and clinical research.  I hold a Master’s of Arts in Counselling Psychology and I am currently in the process of achieving my PhD in Counselling and Psychotherapy.

I specialize in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) - an evidence-based psychotherapeutic approach looking at the connection between our thoughts, emotions and behaviours.  I am trained in Prolonged Exposure Therapy and EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing). I also utilize self-compassion and strengths-based approaches.  Client well-being and confidentiality are my priorities and I strive to ensure clients feel safe and comfortable throughout the process. Building and establishing a trusting relationship is integral to the outcome of therapy. Please feel free to get in touch for more information.

Client Focused Therapy

Psychologist Session

I offer individual therapy via in-person, telephone or virtually through a secure online platform.

What to expect in the first therapy session

The purpose of therapy is to improve psychological health. The first session will cover informed consent, answering any questions or concerns you have and I will collect a clinical history from you. Another important aspect of the initial session will be to set therapeutic goals (what you are hoping to get from therapy and where would you like to see some change).  We will also discuss a treatment plan. The therapeutic approach should always be collaborative between therapist and client - and I am open to your feedback throughout the process.

Specialties and Clinical Interests

I am currently seeing adults and seniors who are experiencing anxiety, depression, stress (including caregiver stress), interpersonal conflict, workplace concerns, PTSD and trauma, relationship issues, grief, self-esteem issues and chronic illness (diabetes, chronic pain, neurodegenerative diseases, etc).  I have a clinical interest in working with First Responders and active/retired members of the Canadian Armed Forces.

Extended Healthcare Benefits and Fees
